Orthodoxia. A dark land ruled by religion and fanaticism. A land where churches outnumber the populace two to one and superstition is around every corner. You now find yourself in the wake of the Age of Corruption with only one chance to survive. As the Penitent One, you will have to strike forward alone with nothing but your wits and your trusty sword at your side. Will you survive? Or fall victim to ever growing darkness.
Blasphemous, from The Game Kitchen, is looking to be one hellish ride that mixes the 2D sidescrolling action of a Meatroidvania game with the intense combat and grim settings of games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Players will take control of a lone warrior known as the Penitent One and seek to rid the land of religious oppression and the fierce creatures that follow. Blasphemous promises to have fast paced, skilled combat that feels more like a proper fight than mindlessly mowing down wave after wave of useless AI. The game will have many dark and twisted enemy types, but will also have epic boss battles that will test the best players skill level.
Blasphemous will be an expansive game with non-linear levels that will allow players to explore and feel the real depth and immersion of the world around them. And that world looks bloody amazing thanks to the painstakingly hand crafted pixel art with smooth animations that make these demonic creatures and settings come to life.
Blasphemous just rolled out its Kickstarter campaign and has easily crushed its initial goal for $50,000 with 28 days still to go. This game already looks amazing and I think it will only get better with time. But unfortunately time is a factor as we are going to have to wait for a full release sometime in 2019.
